The Top 10 Poker Movies Of All Time

There is a possiblity that the first time you found yourself fascinated by a Poker game was through a movie. There have been many great movies where Poker was a significant part of the story. Here’s the top 10 of all Poker Movies ever!

10 – A Big Hand For The Little Lady – 1996
A Bid Hand For The Little Lady is a comedy genre film about a man called Henry Fonda who is terrible at cards and unfortunately broke as well, not a good mix for playing poker. Henry manages to deal an amazing hand winning money from the game with a very rich man. Henry suffers a heart attack, leaving his wife to deal with the fortune.

9 – The Gambler – 1980
The Gambler is a lonely gambler who becomes friends with a stranger and puts him into some sticky situations. the movie was actually based on the song, The Gambler. “You’ve got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away, and know when to run.”

8 – Sunset Trail – 1939
Sunset trail is an old tale about a man called Keller who purchases cattle from someone called Marsh. Keller then murders Marsh to return himself the money.  Ann Marsh recalled to memory some of the serial numbers and poses as a novice poker and wins all the money back from Keller and gets on the run. Keller heads out to find Ann Marsh.

7 – Kaleidoscope – 1966
Love. Larceny. Luck. They’re all in the cards. Kaleidoscope is a thriller about a mischievous Barney Lincoln, who breaks into a card making factory and marking the printing plates with a code that only he alone can translate.

6 – Rounders – 1998
Matt Damon stars in this interesting film, as a law school student who quits poker to start a better life, but is persuaded back into it by his friend Worm. He becomes in a great debt to a Russion crime boss.

5 – 21 – 2008
Ben Campbell needs $300,000 for the course at the Harvard School of Medicine. Unfortunately there is no way that Ben can get the money, prof. Micky Rosa asks Ben to join a small group of five who are being trained by the professor in card counting.

4 – Maverick – 1994
 ”From the moment I slapped eyes on this hombre, I smelled trouble. And refried beans.”  Maverick stars Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster and James Garner, Maverick is a gambler who needs three thousand dollars to enter a poker game. He tries every way he can to get the money and joins with a female gambler and they both try to enter the game.

3 – California Split – 1974
 in this realistic film, about two gamblers in California who get seem to be very good and getting drunk and losing money, get some bad luck and become very deep in debt. They take one last chance with luck to decide their fate.

2 – Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels – 1998
after losing £500,000 to a crime lord in a game of cards, they hear their neighbours talking about a heist, and the boys have no choice but to go all in on this one.

1 – The Cincinnati Kid – 1965
Based in the 1930s in New Orleans, a young poker player, Eric Stoner “The Cincinnati Kid”, hears that Lancey Howard is in town, he is known as the best in the game. Eric wants to play against him, to increase his reputation.  The game is arranged and in the lead up to the game The Kid is faced with many distractions.
